In October 2018, a friend of CDWK, Kushal, reported a dog with a large head wound in Makhalbari. Kate tried to catch the terrified ferocious dog 3 times with an experienced dog catcher but to no avail. Finally, on the 4th attempt, the dog was netted and tranquilized. The huge maggot-infested wound on Makhal’s head and neck was a bloody mess, which had to be cleaned and dressed every two days. This required him to be enveloped in a blanket, wrestled to the ground, and muzzled before any treatment could be given. Slowly, as the wound healed, the terrified dog became more amenable and approachable, and even playful with other dogs. He seems to have a sense of humour, wheeling around people he trusts wanting to be touched but not yet allowing himself. We would like to see him reveal his true nature and to be finally released from that dreadful fear. Recently we noticed that he has CTVT so he has also been treated with chemotherapy, has been castrated, and will be going home.
