In August 2015, Kate was alerted to Usha, a miserable very thin older pup, by a local tourist guide at Pashupatinath temple, who cared about dogs. Kate and Shell, the Aussie vet nurse, picked up Usha on the motorbike. She was diagnosed with some mange and tick-borne Erlichia cannis infection.
Usha thrived on decent food and treatment, and was soon fit and healthy. The reason Usha was not returned to the community was that shell fostered her while she was in Nepal, and had intended to adopt her, and take her back to Australia with Minnie 2. However, like Minnie, Usha also had a high antibody titre to Erlichia, so she was not eligible to relocate to Australia. Usha was a bouncy girl, healthy, outgoing and friendly to people and other dogs. Sadly, she died from Kidney failure on 23 August 2021.
